The spark of a lifelong passion
My artistic journey is deeply rooted in the friendships formed and the travels undertaken throughout my life. These experiences, stretching across decades, have continuously ignited and shaped my passion for both art and photography. Every new place, every shared laugh, and every moment of discovery has contributed to the artist I am today, inspiring me to capture and transform these experiences into visual and poetic narratives.
Inspiration from the road less travelled
One of my most vivid inspirations comes from riding a motorcycle through the ranges from Dorrigo down to the Coffs Coast of NSW. The dramatic change in landscape and weather during that journey was profound. It was a visceral experience that deeply resonated with me, reminding me of nature's raw beauty and ever-shifting moods. This particular memory, along with many others, often finds its way into my art, whether through the lines of a poem or the brushstrokes of a painting.
My unique artistic voice
What makes my art truly 'me' is the symbiotic relationship between my photography, painting, drawing, and poetry. My art inspires me to write poetry, and conversely, my poetry often sparks new ideas for paintings and drawings. These creative cycles are further fuelled by the photos I've taken, the places I've travelled, and the deep friendships I've cultivated. When you experience my work, I hope you feel a sense of connection, emotion, and the narrative depth that flows from these interwoven inspirations.
Beyond the canvas: My passions
When I'm not immersed in creating, you'll often find me exploring other passions that fuel my artistic spirit. I love to scuba dive, taking photos of the underwater world and enjoying the profound serenity it offers. Travelling with my wife, who is my best friend and confidant, is another cherished pastime. I also enjoy gardening, reading, and volunteering at the Camden Rugby Union Club as part of the 'Chain Gang'. Above all, being a grandfather, or "Poppy G," brings immense joy and boundless inspiration.
